Cook – Healthcare Facility

About the role

The Cook is responsible for managing and operating the kitchen when the Dietary Supervisor is absent. This position ensures that meals are prepared safely, hygienically, and in accordance with dietary guidelines for residents in a healthcare setting.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the kitchen and cooking area in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition.
• Prepare tasty meals and large‑quantity food items following established menus and portion‑control guides.
• Accurately prepare special diets, pureed foods, and record food temperatures.
• Assist with serving meals and ensure appealing food presentation for residents.
• Supervise kitchen operations in the Dietary Supervisor’s absence and support staff training.
• Maintain sanitizer solutions and follow all cleaning schedules.
• Report resident care concerns and potential issues to the Administrator or Director of Nursing.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of cooking experience in a hospital or long‑term care facility.
• Ability to read technical procedures, recipes, and interpret written or oral instructions.
• Basic math skills for fractions, percentages, ratios, and portion calculations.
• Good problem‑solving ability and capacity to work cooperatively with all departments.

Required skills

• ServSafe certification (must be obtained and maintained).
