Engineering Team Lead (Android)
ding · Dublin
Job description
About the role
Ding, a global cross-border value transfer company, is hiring an Engineering Team Lead (Android) in Dublin on a permanent, full-time basis, working hybrid. You will own the technical direction, quality and delivery of the Ding Android application, which is used by millions of customers worldwide, and lead a team of Android engineers. The role is hands-on: you write code, review code, design architecture and grow the engineers around you.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the Android engineering team, set technical direction and architectural standards, and own delivery across the Android roadmap.
- Write production Kotlin code and build UI in Jetpack Compose, and lead by example in code reviews.
- Own and evolve the CI/CD pipeline in GitHub Actions, including builds, signing, automated testing, distribution and release automation.
- Drive a healthy testing culture (unit, integration and end-to-end testing) and actively manage and reduce technical debt.
- Manage the performance and growth of engineers at all levels, from 1:1s to career progression.
- Partner with Product, Design, QA and Backend to scope, plan and deliver features end to end.
- Own Android app performance, crash-free rates, startup time and Play Store quality, and recruit, interview and onboard Android engineers.
Required profile
- 3+ years in an Android Lead or Engineering Manager role, or significant senior Android experience with the ambition to step into leadership.
- Proven track record of delivering and scaling consumer-facing Android applications.
- Proven experience managing engineers at all levels, including handling underperformance and developing senior talent.
- Excellent written and spoken English, able to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required skills
- Kotlin, including coroutines, flows and modern patterns.
- Jetpack Compose, including state management, navigation and performance tuning.
- CI/CD in GitHub Actions for building, signing, testing and releasing Android apps.
- Unit and end-to-end testing (JUnit, MockK/Mockito, Espresso, Compose UI testing).
- Android architecture patterns (MVVM/MVI, clean architecture, modularisation) and dependency injection (Hilt/Koin).
- Nice to have: payments/fintech or PCI DSS experience, legacy migration (Views to Compose, Java to Kotlin), mobile analytics and A/B testing tools, and Play Store release management.
What we offer
- Salary up to EUR 90,000 base plus a 10% annual bonus.
- Hybrid working (Dublin HQ and WFH) and a Work Abroad Programme of 30 days per year.
- Pension and private healthcare, wellness programme and learning and development support.
The recruitment process involves an initial screening with the HR team, a call with the Engineering Manager, and a call with the Director of Engineering.
