Manufacturing Engineering Manager, R&D

About the role

Apple is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers within its R&D organization. You will design, develop, and optimise manufacturing processes and technologies that support Apple’s innovative product lineup, collaborating across global, cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop end‑to‑end manufacturing processes and technologies for R&D projects.
• Collaborate with global cross‑functional teams to deliver complete solutions.
• Drive continuous process improvement and optimise key performance metrics.
• Design, commission, and qualify manual, semi‑automated, and automated prototype manufacturing solutions.
• Support design teams with manufacturability feedback and process selection.
• Manage and mentor the engineering team, creating structured development plans.

Required profile

• Experience developing or optimising manufacturing processes in a manufacturing or R&D environment.
• Proven ability to provide technical direction, coaching, and mentorship to engineering teams.
• B.Eng/M.Eng, B.Sc./M.Sc. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Process, Industrial, Biomedical, Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent.
• Preferred: experience leading technical teams, 3D CAD design, additive manufacturing, laser technology, technical documentation, PFMEA, statistical process analysis, lean or Six Sigma, vendor management.

Required skills

• 3D CAD for equipment, tooling, fixtures, and assembly aids.
• Additive manufacturing (3D printing) processes.
• Laser marking and cutting technologies.
• Technical documentation (reports, work instructions, qualification protocols).
• PFMEA or equivalent risk analysis.
• Statistical methods for process capability assessment.
• Industrial engineering, line balancing, lean, Six Sigma.
• Experience working with third‑party vendors.
