Mechanical & Building Services Engineer – Chief Assistant Technical Services Officer

About the role

The Mechanical & Building Services Engineer will lead the development and maintenance of hospital technical and building infrastructure. Reporting to the Head of Operations and the Director of Estates & Facilities, the role ensures safe, efficient delivery of engineering projects and continuous service availability across the estate.

Key responsibilities

• Act as project lead for strategic projects, delivering on time, within budget and to specification.
• Develop, monitor and execute service plans for the Directorate, ensuring compliance with codes, QA/QC policies and risk management.
• Oversee performance of the Mechanical/Building Services function against business and budgetary indicators.
• Provide technical guidance, specifications and oversight for all projects, reviewing deliverables and initiating corrective actions.
• Manage third‑party communications and act as Project Manager for assigned projects.
• Ensure health & safety legislation compliance and fulfil statutory reporting, including energy consumption.
• Design mechanical and building services installations in line with Irish standards and Hospital Technical Memoranda, producing schematics and documentation using CAD tools.

Required profile

• Qualified Mechanical or Building Services Engineer with extensive experience in hospital or large‑scale facilities.
• Proven track record of leading complex engineering projects and managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong knowledge of Irish building codes, health & safety regulations and QA/QC processes.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to project stakeholders.
