Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

The Mechanical Design Engineer will support the Coffey design team in delivering practical, efficient mechanical solutions for water and wastewater treatment facilities. You will act as a key liaison between internal teams and external consultants, turning concepts into buildable designs.

Key responsibilities

• Develop design drawings from concept through to construction issue, ensuring compliance with HSE standards.
• Assist with cost estimation and select reputable suppliers for valves, pumps, screens, air blowers, filters, centrifuges, pipe materials, and related equipment.
• Support the Design Manager and Project Manager to deliver robust technical solutions on schedule.
• Participate in feasibility studies, detailed design, procurement support, construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Produce technical reports, calculations, and specifications that meet industry standards and ensure safety.
• Collaborate with project stakeholders to deliver innovative and effective solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 2‑7 years of experience, preferably in the UK/Ireland water or wastewater sector.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
• Full Irish/EU driver’s licence and legal right to work in Ireland (Stamp 4 or Critical Skills Visa).
