Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join Veolia’s Water division in Kilkenny. The role focuses on designing mechanical and hydraulic systems for water and wastewater treatment plants across Ireland, offering the chance to work with a market‑leading provider of innovative water solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop innovative mechanical design solutions, including equipment selection, hydraulic design, plant layouts and P&IDs.
• Conduct site surveys, optioneering, feasibility studies, detailed design and tender pricing.
• Collaborate with senior design engineers, project managers and sub‑consultants throughout the project lifecycle.
• Perform detailed design calculations and select appropriate equipment.
• Produce procurement specifications and detailed construction drawings.
• Coordinate with process, draughting, electrical and civil/structural teams to ensure integrated design.
• Maintain project documentation in line with the Project Quality Plan.

Required profile

• Level 7/8/9 Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent.
• Strong fundamentals in mechanical design, fluid mechanics and hydraulics.
• Experience with engineering calculations for pumping systems, pipework networks and hydraulic systems.
• Previous exposure to the water industry or related sectors (e.g., pumping, fluid handling, oil & gas) is desirable.
• Ability to work independently and manage design tasks effectively.
• Practical site experience is a plus.
