Mechanical Design Engineer – Modular Offsite Manufacturing

About the role

The Mechanical Design Engineer will join Silent Aire’s Modular Design Engineering Team to develop off‑site manufactured, factory‑built modular systems such as data centres, packaged MEP plantrooms and skid‑mounted mechanical assemblies. This position offers hands‑on experience in Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) and mission‑critical infrastructure while working under senior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the mechanical design of modular plantrooms, packaged MEP systems, and modular data centre solutions.
• Support development of chilled water, pumping, and heat‑rejection systems.
• Produce and update P&IDs, schematics, general arrangement drawings and equipment schedules under supervision.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including calculations, specifications, operation descriptions and technical reports.
• Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials aligned with design, procurement and manufacturing requirements.
• Apply DfMA principles to ensure designs are buildable and cost‑effective.
• Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, commissioning and project teams to support accurate designs.
• Participate in design reviews, technical submittals and respond to comments.
• Liaise with suppliers and vendors for equipment selection, technical data reviews and BoM accuracy.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 2–5 years of experience in mechanical building services or industrial MEP design.
• Understanding of chilled water systems, pumping and basic hydraulic design.
• Ability to produce clear mechanical drawings, technical documentation and structured Bills of Materials.
• Willingness to travel globally to manufacturing facilities or project sites as required.
