Metallurgy Technician – Laboratory Operations

About the role

We are looking for a Metallurgy Technician to support safe and efficient laboratory operations at Newmont’s Lihir gold mine. The role involves preparing samples, conducting routine tests and delivering reliable analytical results that help optimise processing performance.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and handle samples, laboratory equipment and analytical apparatus following approved Safe Work Instructions.
• Perform routine laboratory activities and testing to support metallurgical and geometallurgical operations.
• Participate in Gold‑In‑Circuit surveys and other sampling programs to provide accurate operational data.
• Maintain high standards of safety, quality, housekeeping and regulatory compliance in the lab.
• Collaborate with laboratory and processing teams on daily operations, continuous‑improvement initiatives and departmental objectives.

Required profile

• Minimum Grade 12 education, preferably with a science background.
• Willingness to learn laboratory techniques and develop technical capability in metallurgy.
• Ability to work safely in an onsite mining environment.
