Principal Scientist – Heterogeneous Integration of III‑V and Silicon Photonics

About the role

As a Principal Scientist/Senior Researcher II you will lead a cutting‑edge research programme on heterogeneous integration of III‑V active devices with silicon photonic and electronic ICs. The role is based in the Photonics Centre at Tyndall, working with state‑of‑the‑art fabrication and test facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Drive a research programme focused on large‑scale photonic‑electronic integration using Micro‑Transfer Printing (MTP).
• Establish and grow a dedicated research team, including PhD students and research staff.
• Lead existing projects while securing independent funding and defining new research streams.
• Develop collaborations across the centre, with international partners and industry through Horizon Europe and other programmes.
• Translate research outcomes into technology ready for market deployment with industry partners.

Required profile

• Proven track record of research excellence in photonic integration.
• Deep knowledge of III‑V and silicon photonic device design and fabrication.
• Minimum 5 years experience in a leading academic or industrial research organisation.
• Demonstrated success in obtaining research contracts and leading research programmes.
• Highly motivated, dynamic and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
