Senior Engineer – Preconstruction (Hybrid, Galway/Roscommon)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to join a leading main contractor’s head office in Galway (or Roscommon) on a permanent, hybrid basis. The role focuses on pre‑construction activities, supporting the transition of projects from design to on‑site delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Support the transition of projects from pre‑construction into operational delivery.
• Coordinate all project set‑up activities prior to site commencement.
• Review drawings, specifications, programmes and technical documentation to ensure project readiness.
• Assist with buildability reviews and identify potential construction or coordination issues early.
• Work closely with design, commercial, planning, procurement and operations teams.
• Help establish project execution strategies, logistics planning and sequencing.
• Coordinate subcontractor and supplier information required ahead of mobilisation.
• Support the preparation of construction methodologies and technical submissions.
• Ensure project documentation, approvals and information are in place before hand‑over to site teams.
• Liaise with site management teams to ensure a smooth and efficient project launch.
• Participate in internal project review meetings and planning workshops.
• Assist in driving best practice and continuous improvement across project delivery processes.
• Provide technical support and problem‑solving assistance throughout the pre‑site phase.

Required profile

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5+ years post‑graduate experience as a senior engineer.
• Strong background delivering large‑scale building projects.
• Excellent understanding of construction methodology and sequencing.
• Strong technical and coordination skills.
• Experience working closely with site management and subcontractors.
• Ability to review drawings and identify potential construction challenges.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• Commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery processes.
