Senior House Officer – Emergency Medicine (Immediate Start)

About the role

The Senior House Officer (Emergency Medicine) will join a multidisciplinary emergency department team and provide immediate, high‑quality care to acutely ill patients. This position starts urgently and involves a blend of clinical assessment, treatment, and participation in departmental audits and training.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in a multidisciplinary team delivering emergency medical care.
• Assess, diagnose and treat patients presenting to the emergency department.
• Admit, discharge and document detailed case notes for each patient.
• Order, perform and interpret diagnostic investigations.
• Initiate and monitor therapeutic interventions.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families and the wider clinical team.
• Contribute to clinical audits, risk management activities and data collection.
• Ensure compliance with the European Working Time Directive and Irish legislation.
• Engage in induction training and ongoing professional development.
• Respond to investigations, enquiries or audits related to health service provision.
• Carry out any additional duties assigned by the supervising consultant.

Required profile

• Medical graduate eligible for NCHD appointment and registration with the Irish Medical Council.
• Commitment to patient safety and adherence to the Irish Medical Council’s Guide to Ethical Conduct.
• Ability to work within shift patterns and comply with working‑time regulations.
• Willingness to participate in audits, research performance reviews and continuous learning.
• Compliance with statutory, regulatory and hospital policies (e.g., Dignity at Work, Flexible Working Scheme).
