Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading energy organisation working on decarbonisation projects. The role offers hybrid working and a 35‑hour week, based in either Cork or Dublin.

Key responsibilities

• Design Electric Machine Drive (EMD) compressors and associated components such as suction and discharge pipework, coolers and metering equipment.
• Manage the mechanical design of the EMD and contribute technical input to the tendering process.
• Ensure all design work complies with the organisation’s Engineering Design Manual and relevant construction and health & safety regulations.
• Collaborate with senior designers to align design processes, procedures and methodology across the network.
• Maintain engineering excellence throughout the design lifecycle.

Required profile

• Level 8 engineering degree with knowledge of construction and H&S regulations and risk management practices.
• Experience with hazard identification, design risk assessment and familiarity with HAZOP, HAZID, HAZCON.
• Understanding of functional safety, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) and ALARP principles.
• Knowledge of public and utility procurement processes.
• Proven ability to resolve complex technical issues and communicate solutions effectively.
