Technical Architect – Professional Services

About the role

Shopify is looking for a Technical Architect to join its Professional Services team. You will work directly with enterprise merchants to design, build, and optimise native Shopify experiences that drive conversion, performance and developer velocity.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical discovery, solution design and hands‑on proof‑of‑concepts for Plus and enterprise storefronts.
• Define migration paths for merchants moving from legacy platforms, assess existing architecture and sequence work to avoid disruption.
• Set and enforce frontend performance standards (Core Web Vitals, rendering strategy, asset discipline) and coach teams to meet them.
• Make critical architecture decisions – Liquid vs. Hydrogen/Oxygen, native vs. app, Checkout Extensibility patterns, content modelling with metafields/metaobjects, multi‑market setups via Shopify Markets.
• Build reusable reference implementations, accelerators and internal tooling such as Theme App Extensions, Checkout UI Extensions and Functions.
• Collaborate with Solution Engineers, Merchant Success, Product and Engineering to surface risk early and feed learnings back into Shopify’s roadmap.

Required profile

• Strong technical background with experience delivering complex e‑commerce solutions.
• Proven ability to lead both architecture and hands‑on implementation in fast‑moving, ambiguous environments.
• Excellent communication skills to explain technical decisions to merchants and internal stakeholders.
• Self‑motivated individual contributor who can work autonomously across multi‑month engagements.
