Vice-President: Education & Student Success

About the role

The University of Galway is appointing its inaugural Vice‑President for Education & Student Success. Reporting directly to the President and sitting on the University Management Team, the role will shape the learning experience of over 20,000 students and drive the institution’s strategic agenda for educational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of the Educational Excellence and Student Success strategies across teaching, learning, curriculum, assessment and student outcomes.
• Champion innovation in education, including the development of institutional approaches to artificial intelligence.
• Work collaboratively with colleges, schools and professional services to embed inclusive, future‑focused learning.
• Oversee the university’s policies on access, participation, progression and student support.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, creativity and high‑quality assurance.
• Represent the university in external forums related to education and student success.

Required profile

• Distinguished academic of professorial standing with a proven record of leading educational strategy in a complex organization.
• Significant experience of transformational change and improvement delivery in higher education.
• Strong ability to inspire colleagues, build partnerships and influence senior stakeholders.
• Deep understanding of teaching, learning, quality assurance and student outcomes.
• Commitment to inclusion, diversity and student wellbeing.
