Metrology Engineer

About the role

Alcon is seeking a Metrology Engineer to join its Cork team. You will design, validate and implement high‑technology metrology equipment and processes for the inspection of intra‑ocular lenses (IOLs) and provide engineering support to manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and plan metrology projects, liaising with other departments and plants.
• Report project status to management and flag concerns early.
• Ensure projects meet timelines, budgets and H&S/environmental requirements.
• Plan resource utilisation and collaborate with R&D and other Alcon facilities to introduce new products and processes.
• Explore collaborative projects with external research groups, using mechanisms such as Enterprise Ireland.
• Introduce and validate new equipment or complex processes from design through to regulatory compliance.
• Drive cost‑improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
• Support and improve existing processes through engineering analysis.
• Implement effective CAPAs for compliance actions within agreed timelines.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in a high‑volume manufacturing environment with project management and metrology solutions.
• Preferable experience or knowledge of optics and optical metrology.
• Experience in medical device manufacturing (approximately 5 years mentioned).
• Strong analytical problem‑solving skills.
