Medical Physician – Pre‑Assessment Clinic

About the role

The Pre‑Assessment Clinic at UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic is seeking an experienced Medical Physician to join its multidisciplinary team. You will provide comprehensive clinical assessments, support surgical patients, and ensure high‑quality patient care throughout the hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate service delivery with the Pre‑Assessment Clinic (PAC) team, fostering teamwork between physicians and nursing staff.
• Deliver a pre‑assessment clinical service, including timely in‑patient reviews and medical assessments of all PAC patients.
• Diagnose, manage, and follow up treatment plans for in‑patients on the wards.
• Respond to patient queries, advise on lifestyle changes, and refer high‑BMI patients to appropriate support services.
• Review test results, communicate relevant records to specialists, and arrange specialist consultations to prepare patients for theatre.
• Refer patients to anaesthetists when surgical suitability concerns arise.
• Lead the management of deteriorating patients, including ACLS‑compliant cardiac arrest response.
• Ensure compliance with clinical guidelines, UPMC policies, and statutory requirements.
• Participate in education, research, hospital committees, and staff training.

Required profile

• Registered with the Irish Medical Council.
• 5–10 years post‑graduate clinical experience, preferably in an acute hospital setting.
• Demonstrated commitment to patient‑centred care and hospital values.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
