Staff Nurse – Mental Health

About the role

The Staff Nurse – Mental Health provides holistic, person‑centred nursing care within a multidisciplinary team. The role focuses on promoting recovery, supporting service‑user independence, and enhancing quality of life for individuals receiving mental health services.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
• Deliver therapeutic, recovery‑focused interventions and support service‑user choices.
• Observe, record, and monitor symptoms, responses and progress of patients.
• Supervise, teach and assess student nurses and junior staff in the clinical area.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and deliver comprehensive care plans.
• Maintain mandatory training, adhere to hospital policies, and comply with health and safety legislation.

Required profile

• Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (or eligible for registration).
• Minimum six months experience in mental health nursing (post‑graduate or undergraduate).
• Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2001, its rules and codes of practice.
• Experience in teaching and assessing junior staff or nursing students.
• Proficient in English (written and spoken) and able to communicate effectively.
• Commitment to maintain annual NMBI registration and mandatory learning.

Required skills

• I.T. skills, including excellent keyboard proficiency.
• Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2001 and related regulations.
