About the role
The Office of Public Works is seeking a skilled Craft Stonemason and Stonecutter to work within the Trim National Monuments District. The role involves hands‑on conservation, restoration and new construction of stone structures, supporting heritage projects across the area.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in on‑site conservation and restoration of historic stonework.
- Repair, build and carve stone, including dry‑stone and mortar walls.
- Cut, shape and finish stone using hand and power tools.
- Mix and apply mortar, lime and cement for various masonry tasks.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, set out works and ensure accurate placement.
- Load, unload, sort and transport stone materials.
- Perform pointing, underpinning, flashing/capping of walls.
- Operate tractor and dumper where required.
Required profile
- Advanced Certificate in Stonemasonry & Stonecutting or equivalent Level 6 NFQ qualification.
- Minimum three years post‑qualification experience in stonework or related masonry.
- Full, clean and current Category B & W driving licence with own transport (automatic‑only licences not accepted).
- Valid Safepass card or proof of successful completion of the Safe Pass course.
- Apprenticeship evidence and successful craft examinations where applicable.
