Health & Safety Director

About the role

The Health & Safety Director will provide strategic leadership for health, safety and wellbeing across BAM Ireland. Reporting to the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Director – UK & Ireland, the role combines office‑based work, remote activity and regular travel to construction sites throughout the region.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high‑performing H&S team, overseeing recruitment, performance management and succession planning.
• Contribute to the UK & Ireland H&S & Wellbeing strategy and ensure alignment with business priorities and client expectations.
• Ensure H&S management systems and platforms are fit for purpose and support continuous improvement.
• Oversee training delivery, competency assurance and collaboration with HR and L&D.
• Promote a safe and inclusive culture, influencing senior leadership and embedding “Everyone Safe & Well Every Day”.
• Manage emergency preparedness, resilience planning and compliance with group, divisional and client H&S requirements.
• Monitor H&S performance against KPIs, drive corrective actions and support internal and external audits.
• Engage with external stakeholders, including clients, supply chain partners and industry peers, to foster best practice.

Required profile

• Proven experience in senior H&S leadership within the construction sector.
• Demonstrated ability to work with senior leaders, stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong knowledge of H&S management systems, standards and regulatory compliance.
