Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Veolia, Ireland's leading environmental services company, is expanding its Water division and seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a diverse team of around 200 professionals. Based in Kilkenny, you will work on water and wastewater treatment projects across the island, contributing to innovative, sustainable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Senior Design Engineer and wider design team to deliver end‑to‑end mechanical designs.
• Engage with clients from concept through feasibility, detailed design, implementation and final delivery.
• Perform detailed design calculations, select appropriate equipment, and develop hydraulic system layouts.
• Produce and review P&IDs and other design drawings in partnership with the drawing team.
• Provide technical guidance on equipment selection and support procurement activities.
• Ensure all project documentation complies with the Project Quality Plan and specific project requirements.

Required profile

• Level 7/8/9 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in the water industry is desirable, with exposure to pumping, piping or fluid‑handling systems valued.
• Strong analytical mindset and ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
