Mechanical Engineer – Water & Wastewater Projects

About the role

Jacobs is seeking Mechanical Engineers to join its water and wastewater teams across Ireland. You will be responsible for designing and delivering mechanical systems for pumping stations, treatment plants and related infrastructure, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design water and wastewater mechanical systems from concept through detailed design and construction.
• Participate in value‑engineering and buildability workshops to deliver sustainable solutions.
• Develop feasibility studies, outline designs, detailed designs and provide construction and commissioning support.
• Produce design layouts, technical specifications, datasheets and P&IDs for mechanical equipment.
• Select pumps, blowers, screens, valves, chemical dosing and odour‑control equipment.
• Conduct site surveys, liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers, and ensure designs meet Irish and UK water industry standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative team culture.

Required profile

• Open to candidates at junior, mid or senior level with experience in mechanical design for water and wastewater infrastructure.
• Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and engage with clients and contractors.

Required skills

• Mechanical system design for water and wastewater facilities.
• Pump, blower, screen and valve selection.
• Design of chemical dosing and odour‑control equipment.
• Creation of design layouts, technical specifications, datasheets and P&IDs.
• Conducting site surveys and stakeholder liaison.
